»Data exchange and interoperability are a central requirement for Industry 4.0. At the same time, the question of data control and of data value is increasingly being discussed in companies, for example from the USA, Mexico, Japan and China«, explains Prof Boris Otto, member of the board of the Industrial Data Space Association and Managing Director of Fraunhofer ISST. »The question of whether there is a common global understanding of data sovereignty as a solution approach is becoming more and more important. « Chaired by Prof Boris Otto and Prof Michael ten Hompel (Fraunhofer IML) the participants from the G20 states recently were involved in discussions at the »Digitising Manufacturing in the G20« conference in Berlin.

The Industrial Data Space Association is driving the discussion forward about data sovereignty and the international standardisation of a corresponding reference architecture model at international level. Data sovereignty is also an important subject for the researchers at the Innovationlab Hybrid Services in Logistics and a significant condition for the interaction of people and technology in »Social Networks«.
